A NASA astronaut is back on Earth after a year in space, the longest for an American
Frank Rubio's first mission broke the record for the longest U.S. spaceflight earlier this month. Rubio is a medical doctor and was a lieutenant colonel and Blackhawk helicopter pilot in the Army.

This Tax Season, The IRS May Be Feeling Your Pain
The agency faces a $600 million cut to its budget for the rest of the current fiscal year, if congressional Republicans have their way. The agency says such a large budget cut would hinder its tax-collection efforts, and that in turn could reduce revenues coming into the Treasury.

In Syria, Arab League Observers Caught In Crossfire
An Arab League monitoring mission is visiting Homs and Hama, major centers of Syria's anti-government uprising, and witnessed violence firsthand. Activists say at least 40 protesters were killed by security forces Thursday. The presence of the monitors has emboldened the protesters, who are chronicling their struggle in videos.

More Americans Hungry For Food Stamps
Although the economy has been growing since mid-2009, the pace has been too slow to absorb the nearly 14 million people without jobs. Today, 46 million Americans receive the federal government's help when buying food, which is roughly 15 percent of the population.

Census: 2010 Saw Poverty Rate Increase, Income Drop
The nation's poverty rate rose last year to 15.1 percent, the highest level in 17 years, according to new data from the Census Bureau. The agency's latest poverty report, released Tuesday, shows that the median income dropped last year by more than 2 percent to about $49,445.
