U.S. Military Probes Reports of 'Friendly Fire'
The U.S. military investigates reports that an American warplane bombed a convoy of Kurdish fighters and U.S. Special Forces soldiers in northern Iraq, killing several people. A BBC reporter traveling with the convoy says he counted at least 10 bodies lying near the burning vehicles. NPR's Liane Hansen talks to NPR's Ivan Watson.

A third victim in the Tel Aviv shooting dies and security forces kill the gunman
The Thursday evening shooting in a downtown area packed with people in bars and restaurants caused scenes of mass panic in the heart of the city. It was the fourth deadly attack in three weeks.
Dozens Dead in Attack on Baghdad Market

Adjustments in the war plan recognize that Iraqi citizens have not welcomed the invasion, and in some cases are forming counter-insurgency groups. Army, Marines Push to Secure Regions South of Baghdad

Georgia Town Loses Two Soldiers
The small town of Conyers, southeast of Atlanta, has lost two soldiers in Iraq -- Pfc. Diego Rincon, 19, and Army Spc. Jamaal Addison, 22. Conyers has been growing because of its proximity to Georgia's capital city, but it still has a small-town personality -- and many people there have passionate feelings about the war, and the town's losses. Two Journalists Killed in Baghdad Blast
Two journalists are killed after U.S. forces fire on their hotel in Baghdad. Pentagon officials say the Army's 3rd Infantry Division targeted the Palestine Hotel, the base for most of the foreign media in the Iraqi capital, in response to sniper fire from the hotel's rooftop. But journalists said they heard no shots from the hotel. Hear NPR's Anne Garrels.

Facing sporadic resistance from Iraqi troops, U.S. Army tanks enter Baghdad while armored vehicles encircle the Iraqi capital, a U.S. Central Command spokesman says. Col. David Perkins of the 3rd Infantry Division says U.S.-led forces will increase their stranglehold on the city and "take bites and pieces at a time until the regime does collapse."
