The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on Sunday in Florence County. The Florence County Coroner identified the victim as 57-year-old Robert Edward Lee Napper.
A SLED news release shows Napper fired into a vehicle with two people inside. They were not injured.
Napper sped away from the scene but his car rolled over and that's when, investigators say, he began shooting from inside the vehicle. Deputies returned fire, hitting and killing Napper.
This is the 40th officer-involved shooting in the state this year. SLED's investigation is ongoing.
