Changes will be effective Sunday, Nov. 1.

South Carolina food stamp recipients will see changes to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, effective Sunday, Nov. 1.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services is launching a two-year initiative to help households make healthier food choices. Under the Healthy Food SC project, recipients will no longer be able to buy items like candy, energy drinks, soft drinks and other sweetened drinks. Diet and zero sugar soft drinks can still be purchased.

All of the state's SNAP approved retailers will participate in the project, and SNAP households will not have the option to opt out.
