North Charleston officers said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating.

Police in North Charleston said a Sunday call turned into a hostage situation that ended with a suspect dead. A statement from the department said officers responded to a stabbing call at 5 p.m. on Charter Drive. When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly barricaded themself inside with a hostage.

NCPD called in crisis negotiators and a SWAT team.

Officers said negotiations failed, and the SWAT team breached the barricade. That's when an officer fired his gun. The suspect reportedly got medical help, but died at the scene. The hostage was given aid by first responders and survived the incident.

SLED will investigate the shooting, according to NCPD. The Charleston County Coroner's Office is helping the investigation.
