Geordyn and John Hayes were denied bond by Georgetown County Magistrate Judge Steven Pop Saturday. They will remain behind bars on charges of abandonment and unlawfully putting a child at risk.
This all comes after their 5-year-old daughter, Saylor Hayes, was found dead in waters near their rental home on Pawleys Island at the end of August. Saylor was searched for by agencies across the state after the pair reported her missing. The family is originally from Virginia and was visiting the state.
The arrest of the Hayes comes after investigators accused them of misleading search parties away from the water where Saylor was found. Deputies with Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office learned Saylor, who had autism and was nonverbal, had a known attraction to water and would wear a tracking device. Investigators say that device was left in the family’s Virginia home before her death.
A Friday autopsy with the Georgetown Coroner's Office reports Saylor died with fluid in her lungs. Officials are conducting further testing as the investigation continues. The autopsy was conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina
