Search for missing 5-year-old Saylor Hayes in Pawleys Island

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is leading the search for missing child Saylor Hayes.

Georgetown County leaders say 5-year-old Saylor Hayes went missing from her family's rental house Sunday. The house is located on Old Waccamaw Drive in the Hagley community of Pawleys Island.

Search crews from neighboring law enforcement agencies and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are scouring the ground, water and air to find the child.

Investigators say Hayes is nonverbal and doesn't respond to her name. Instead, anyone trying to communicate with her should speak in a slow and gentle voice. Deputies say anyone who sees Hayes should call 911.

“We’re here until we find her,” Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver said as the search continued overnight Sunday.

Responding agencies include Horry County Sheriff's Office, Charleston County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Midway Fire Department.

The Hagley Boat Landing will be closed as the search continues Monday.
