If approved by voters, the penny tax would take effect in May 2027 and is projected to generate over $24 million dollars over eight years, with more than $15 million dedicated directly to local road improvements.

Mauldin city leaders held a social media information session last night ahead of a November vote on a proposed one percent sales tax.

If approved by voters, the penny tax would take effect in May 2027 and is projected to generate over $24 million dollars over eight years, with more than $15 million dedicated directly to local road improvements. City officials said the tax would exclude groceries and medicine, while providing property tax relief for homeowners.

Mauldin is one of several Upstate communities with sales tax referendums on the November ballot, alongside Seneca, Simpsonville, and the City of Greenville.

Greenville County voters will also decide on a countywide sales tax measure.
