A Las Vegas police officer and South Carolina native was laid to rest near his hometown in Greer on Aug. 22.

The Las Vegas Police Department shared information about the services for Austin Zade Abdelnabi Thursday.

Officer Abdelnabi was killed in the line of duty earlier this month. Reports with the Las Vegas Police Department said he was responding to calls about a man waving a gun when he was shot.

A social media post by the department said South Carolina law enforcement agencies, family and friends attended the weekend services.

“The support shown to the Abdelnabi family and the LVMPD family throughout this difficult journey has been extraordinary,” the department wrote. “We extend our deepest gratitude to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Troopers Association Caisson Unit, the many law enforcement agencies, organizations, businesses, and South Carolina community partners who helped make Officer Abdelnabi’s funeral possible.”

Abdelnabi joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2023, after earning a criminal justice degree from Clemson University. Before that, he served four years with the U.S. Marine Corps.
