People across South Carolina remember Dolly Parton for her entertainment career. Aaron Polkey, CEO of Palmetto Project, remembers Dolly Parton as a pioneer for early education.
One of her biggest projects, The Imagination Library, has ties to the Lowcountry.
"Back in 2010 a group of wonderful literacy advocates came into the Palmetto Project and introduced us to the Imagination Library," Polkey recalled. "They were looking for a connection to a program we call Connect With Books."
Polkey said 20,000 children receive books through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. That program has since expanded state-wide, leading to more than 700,000 books delivered to South Carolina kids since 2010.
