Five judicial candidates have filed for a vacant seat on the South Carolina Supreme Court to replace former Associate Justice John Cannon Few.
Judges Blake Hewitt, John Geathers, Ralph Anderson III, Eugene Griffith, and Maite Murphy will go before the Legislature's judicial screening process this fall before lawmakers elect the next justice to serve a 10-year term.
Few's term ended July 31.
He withdrew his candidacy in March after it became clear that he lacked the necessary votes to win reelection. That forced the race to be reopened despite other candidates, including the top vote-getter former House Speaker Jay Lucas, still in the running.
Public hearings before the Judicial Merit Selection Commission will start at 9 a.m. on Nov. 16.
