Gaffney police Thursday charged 17-year-old Reginald Barnes in the shooting death of a city high school student at a bus stop Wednesday morning.
Barnes was charged with murder and the possession of a deadly weapon, in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Jomiltron Fair. According to official and witness reports, Fair was attacked at the bus stop outside his home on West Rutledge Avenue. At least 15 witnesses, most of whom were students heading to school, were present. No other students were hurt.
As of this publishing, city police, along with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and SLED, are still searching for a second person in connection with Fair’s death. Keveon Covington, 18, is wanted for murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of violent crime.
Police say Covington may be armed and dangerous, and they ask anyone with information to contact Gaffney police.
