The Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is asking for public input on a revised EFP application for Atlantic red snapper.
Public comment period runs through Aug. 25.
If approved by NOAA Fisheries, the plan would create a special October season. The application would require participants to follow registration and reporting guidelines for data.
"South Carolina remains committed to working collaboratively with our federal and state partners and with anglers to develop better approaches for managing this important fishery," said Dr. Tom Mullikin, director of SCDNR. "This proposal is intended to address the questions that were raised while continuing to explore innovative, science-based methods that improve recreational data collection and support sustainable fisheries management."
This new proposal comes after a previous plan was stalled by federal courts. The public can review the proposal and submit comments via the NOAA Fisheries website.
