South Carolina State University has new security measures beginning Monday.
The new rules require electronic ID verification for anyone entering the property, rather than showing a physical ID Security teams will now scan ID cards at gates. Any outdated ID card will be confiscated.
Gate entry points are also changing. Gate three is now strictly for faculty and staff. Gate four is for students and gate five is for visitors.
The security overhaul hits just as freshmen begin moving into residence halls. The security enhancements, paired with a new campus chief of police, are the school's first steps in rebuilding the Bulldog community after a February campus shooting killed two teenagers.
The shooting was at Hugine Suites residence hall, the campus's largest dorm. In the months since then, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested more than 10 people in connection with the incident.
SC State leaders say those visiting the campus should expect delays due to the changed security measures.
Classes begin Aug. 10.
