South Carolina will see cooler temperatures and widespread rain beginning Thursday, bringing relief from the recent stretch of heat. Rain chances will increase across the state through the weekend as cooler weather patterns settle in.
According to Chief Meteorologist Tim Miller, a rare July cold front will make into the state. Miller says, “cold front’s usually don’t make it this far south this time of year, when they do, they often stall out over us and bring heavy rain to the state and that’s what I see taking place with this front.”
While it won’t rain continuously, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected each day, with possible heavy rain, especially during evenings.
Due to more cloud cover and rain, this will lower temperatures after several days of dangerous heat. Rainfall will provide relief for areas experiencing drought conditions.
Although this is not expected to be a washout, residents should remain weather aware and monitor the latest forecast. If thunderstorms develop, remember the advice from Chief Meteorologist Tim Miller: “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
