July 4 fireworks display results in death of Aiken man

An autopsy found Brock Jackson, 20, died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

An autopsy report shows Brock Jackson, 20, of Aiken died of blunt force trauma to the chest following a fireworks display on July 4.

Jackson died at Oconee Memorial Hospital about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. The Oconee County coroner says Jackson was among other individuals who jumped from a private dock at East Waterside Drive on Lake Keowee to escape exploding fireworks that prematurely detonated after catching fire.

Oconee 911 received the emergency call shortly before 9:30 p.m. Rescue personnel found Jackson face down in the lake within the boat slip of the dock. Investigators say he was pulled back onto the dock within minutes and had communicated with a family member before he sustained cardiac arrest.

No other injuries were reported.
