The Lexington County coroner released a preliminary autopsy report Monday for Elena Katherine Moore. Her body was discovered last Wednesday in a wooded area off Old Cherokee Road.

Questions remain after a preliminary autopsy report found no immediate cause of death for 39-year-old Elena Katherine Moore. The Lexington woman's body was discovered last Wednesday in a wooded area off Old Cherokee Road — five days after she was reported missing.

Moore was last seen walking away from the Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way on the evening of Thursday, June 11, toward the wooded area behind Lowe's Home Improvement. She was reported missing the next day.

The Lexington County coroner says an autopsy conducted over the weekend didn't find any evidence of traumatic injury to Moore's body. There was no evidence of bruising, lacerations, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, blunt force trauma, strangulation or other external injuries.

Additional evaluation will now take place, including histological studies or a microscopic examination of the body's tissues, medical record reviews and toxicology testing. No other information will be shared until all pending studies have been completed and the pathologist has determined the cause and manner of death—a process which could take several days or weeks to complete.

As a reminder, anyone who might have information about the investigation is asked to contact SLED directly.
