The Lexington County coroner says the body that was discovered Wednesday in a wooded area off Old Cherokee Road is that of Elena Katherine Moore.

A body discovered Wednesday in Lexington has been identified by the Lexington County coroner as 39-year-old Elena Katherine Moore. Additional information about her death is expected Monday following a weekend autopsy.

Moore was reported missing on Friday, June 12. She was last seen walking away from the Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way on the evening of Thursday, June 11, toward the wooded area behind Lowe's Home Improvement.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was asked by the Lexington Police Department and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to assist in the investigation following the discovery. Anyone who might have information about the investigation is asked to contact SLED directly.

The Lexington County coroner says determining a final cause and manner of death is a thorough process that may take several days or weeks to complete.
