A West Ashley teacher could soon be named America’s Favorite Teacher.
Isabel Raisbeck is one of eight semi-finalists in an annual, national competition that celebrates educators while raising money for various charities.
Raisbeck says in an online questionnaire that she was always in trouble until a teacher encouraged her to join cross country and another inspired her to get good grades.
“I became a teacher to try to do the same for students who are feeling angry, left behind, and hurt like I once was,” she said.
Raisbeck graduated from West Ashley High School where she now teaches social studies and coaches cross country.
If she wins, Raisbeck will receive $25,000 in cash, a trip to Hawaii and a feature story in Reader’s Digest Magazine. She says she’d use the money to pay down student loans and pay off her mother’s car.
Online voting to select the winner ends May 14th.
