Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is calling for a Forest Acres bar to close after an officer-involved shooting there left one person dead on Mother’s Day.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) says a Forest Acres Police Officer shot a driver who was not complying with orders to stop. Investigators say the person was driving erratically.

The driver died at the scene.

The shooting was in the parking lot of Relapse Bar and Grill on Two Notch Road, according to investigators. During a Sunday press conference, Sheriff Lott told reporters his department has responded to the establishment 64 times since November 2025.

“We protested the [alcohol] license at that place due to the history,” said Lott. It’s a history deputies say involves car break-ins, robberies, noise complaints and assaults. Lott told reporters that Relapse was given a temporary alcohol license in 2025, but that it had expired in March.

“Someone was more interested in making money than they were in respecting someone who lost their life in their parking lot,” Lott said. “The club did not slow down, did not close down. They just continued in full force like nothing ever happened.”

RCSD is leading the investigation, with the help of the county Coroner’s Office.
