There have been no new reports of dead fish in the lake since April 20.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and state Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) continue to investigate a recent fish kill in Lake Greenwood.

There have been no new reports of dead fish in the lake since April 20. Additionally, ongoing water quality assessments have not given any cause for concern about eating fish from the water nor have sampled fish shown any signs of disease.

SCDNR and SCDES report two properties near the lake are under investigation but no connection to the fish kill has been confirmed at this time. Public reports have prompted additional investigations.

Fish kills, or a large number of fish dying at once, most often happen because of little oxygen, excessive algae blooms and high water temperatures. None of those factors appear to be the cause of Lake Greenwood's fish kill.

To report information related to this or any fish kill, contact SCDNR’s 24-hour reporting line at 800‑922‑5431.
