Aiken County educator named SC's 2027 Teacher of the Year

Dr. Christie Palladino from Aiken County School District received the prestigious honor during a celebration at the Governor's Mansion Thursday.

Dr. Christie Palladino, an educator at Aiken County Career and Technology Center (ACCTC), is South Carolina's 2027 Teacher of the Year. State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver made the announcement Thursday during a celebration at the Governor's Mansion.

Dr. Palladino is a 12-year teaching veteran who leads the biomedical science program at ACCTC. As Teacher of the Year, she will serve as a statewide ambassador for
South Carolina's more than 65,000 educators.

Weaver praised her dedication to the students of South Carolina.

"A gifted physician and researcher, Dr. Christie Palladino chose to change careers to invest her experience and talents in South Carolina students, shaping both their academic success and their sense of purpose," Weaver said. "Her compassion and commitment are preparing the next generation of medical professionals and ensuring her students graduate ready for college or careers, with the confidence that what they learn today opens doors for tomorrow.”

Prior to teaching, Dr. Palladino spent years as an obstetrician‑gynecologist and health science education researcher.

The other finalists included:

  • Nashari Williams, Greenwood School District 50
  • Kaitlyn Rhodes, SC Governor's School for Agriculture

As Teacher of the Year, Dr. Palladino receives $25,000, a brand new BMW to use while serving in this capacity and professional development opportunities statewide and nationally.
