South Carolinians are encouraged to safely dispose of unused medications during this year's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Medications will be collected at various locations across the state Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is the 30th year for the event which takes place twice annually. According to National Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the events have been overwhelmingly successful in the last 15 years with the collection and disposal of over 10,196 tons of pharmaceuticals. The DEA reports South Carolinians disposed of 4,739 pounds of unused medications last year.

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain tightly sealed in their original container to prevent leakage. A list of drop-off locations can be found online.
