The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 2.3 earthquake that hit at 5:18 a.m. about 11 miles from Winnsboro and had a depth of 3.4 miles.
The USGS reported a second earthquake with a magnitude of 1.6 that hit at 6:44 a.m. about 11 miles south of Gayle Mill and had a depth of 1.1 miles
According to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, approximately 10 to 15 earthquakes are recorded annually in the state with about three to five strong enough to be felt by residents.
