Joint Base Charleston has changed the location of its annual Charleston Airshow due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The show will now be a one-day, off-base event set to take place over the Charleston Harbor.
628 Air Base Wing and Joint Base Charleston Battalion Commander Col. Jason "JP" Parker said the decision comes after "careful consideration," but is necessary due to the base's increased operational requirements amid "current global events."
The base will host a Harbor-Front Airshow, scheduled for Saturday, May 2. In partnership with the City of Charleston and the Town of Mount Pleasant, the aerial performances will take place over the water, south of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
The show will feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels along with several other aerial performers. Unlike previous years, the public will view the maneuvers from downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant rather than the base.
Base officials also confirmed that the new harbor-front format will not require passes for general viewing.
For those who previously purchased premium seating tickets for the original on-base format, will be issued a full refund.
Updates on the show will be posted on the base's official Facebook page and website.
