The South Carolina Department of Public Health's Friday, April 3 update marked the fifth-consecutive update with zero infections reported, keeping the outbreak total at 997.

The measles outbreak could be coming to an end in South Carolina. On Friday, the state Department of Public Health (DPH) reported no new cases of measles since March 17, marking the fifth-consecutive update with zero new illnesses reported.

The total number of infections linked to the Upstate outbreak remains at 997. No one is currently in quarantine or isolation. If no new cases are reported, state health officials say the last day of the outbreak will be April 26.

A period of 42 days with no new cases is required to declare an end to a measles outbreak. This is double the number of days for an incubation period (21 days) and a clear indicator of a broken transmission chain.

The latest outbreak information can be found on DPH's website. The agency's Measles Dashboard also provides additional data and resources.
