The Richland County Conservation Commission (RCCC) is conducting prescribed burns on select conservation properties in the Old Bluff Road area. The activity will continue until Friday, April 3, weather permitting.
The controlled burning will start early in the day and end at sundown. During those times, residents in the area might notice smoke drifting beyond conservation property boundaries.
Prescribed burning is a proven land management tool used to reduce the risk of wildfires by removing excess vegetation that can accumulate over time and increase fire danger. The practice plays an important role in promoting healthier forest ecosystems and protecting local communities, infrastructure and natural resources.
The controlled burns are permitted by the state Forestry Commission and will follow strict safety and weather guidelines.
