Census numbers show South Carolina is the fastest growing state in the nation. But what, if any impact, do so many newcomers have on employment rates?
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released a report on employment numbers for some of the fastest-growing counties in the state.
At the top is Charleston County. The federal study shows it saw the highest employment growth, one percent, between 2024 and 2025. Nationally, the county ranks 47th in the nation for its increase in employment percentages.
Greenville and Horry Counties aren’t far behind. Both saw a .9% employment rate rise with Greenville ranking 59th in the nation.
York and Lexington Counties saw smaller gains. York experienced a .5% increase and ranked 98th in the nation. Lexington saw a .3% rise in employment numbers last year.
As for Spartanburg County, there were no changes in employment percentages. But in Richland County, the number of employees dipped by .1%.
