THREATS: Expect damaging wind gusts between 50-70+ mph as the main threat. Sustained winds may get up to 35-40+ mph. Spin-up tornadoes are a secondary threat. Hail is another possibility, but less likely. Frequent lightning is also expected. Areas including Hartsville, Florence, and Dillon have the highest chance of being affected by these conditions. Have a safe space ready in the event you need to take cover. This space include the most interior portion of your home without windows. Mobile homes will not be a safe option to stay in; instead, find friends or family to stay with until the storms roll through.
UNLIKELY AFFECTED AREAS: Areas including Walhalla, Pickens, and La France will have thunderstorms, but damaging winds and tornadoes are unlikely. No flooding is expected across the entire state since rainfall totals will be between 0.25-0.50'' by the end of this event.
TIMEFRAME: The Lowcountry and the Upstate will see these effects between now until 3:00 PM. Storms across the Grand Strand will last between 1:30 PM and 5:00 PM.
Temperature highs will be sitting in the upper-60s and lower-70s today. However, the temperatures will drop quickly as storms roll through the state. Mid-day temperatures will be down in the 40s and 50s. The Upstate will then drop to around freezing. Cities on the coast will be above freezing in the upper-30s. Tomorrow will be cooler in the upper-40s and lower-50s in NW SC and in the mid-50s for the coast.
CAUTION: Any leftover rain may freeze on the roads in NW SC early Tuesday morning since road and air temperatures will be below freezing. This includes areas such as Greenville, Rock Hill, and Aiken.
