Grace periods are set to expire soon regarding a new mandatory parking decal requirement at South Carolina State University (SCSU).
Under the measure, students and staff must have mandatory parking decals displayed in their vehicles at all times. University IDs must also be carried and readily available at the request of campus safety and local law enforcement personnel.
In support of this initiative, SCSU implemented grace periods during which 2026 parking details may be obtained and IDs can be updated. Students and staff may do so on the second floor of the Crawford-Zimmerman Building.
The grace period for students ends Friday. IDs and decals will be available until 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for those students who are graduating or taking night classes. There is no cost during the grace period.
The grace period for faculty and staff is Monday, March 9 - Wednesday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A parking space fee will be required and can be paid for using payroll deduction.
University officials say the initiative establishes measurable access controls, defined entry points and clearer enforcement standards intended to hold students and visitors accountable while protecting the broader campus.
The measure also aligns with other recent security upgrades on campus including the installation of additional cameras and lighting, expanded and repaired perimeter fencing, heightened operations at campus gates and the establishment of a Community Safety Hub in Hugine Suites.
